Plans for Poems
I keep envisioning a means of making poetry more applicable to today’s world. The new century has really dusted off its stanzas, but there were a lot of dead skin cells from the Post Moderns. I’m glad that spoken word is picking up heat because there is still a layer of detachment from poetry and reality and we need more lyrics about life. Here is a piece I wrote on poetics in the 21st Century if you haven’t been keeping up with this era’s poets.
So far, the best poems I’ve seen online are four to six lines on a simple background with the author’s name at the bottom. They’re sleek, ageless and memorable. My pieces tend to be between 12 and 20 lines, tho, so I’m learning to trim. The point is, nowadays poets can take snippets to share across social media and I am going to prioritize that this year. Last year I put out about 10 or so pieces, in 2024 I’m going to triple that.
Apart from snippets, there are shorts to think of. Poetry is meant to be heard and I do love to read to an audience, so I will be more active on YouTube, Instagram, and I might even get reacquainted with TikTok.
That’s the plan for this year, of course I want to continue to share my poetry collection, Songs From the Mountaintop, which can still be yours free, when you review your copy on Amazon or Barnes & Noble
Thanks for your support and as always,
Keep Writing!
